Spring is with us at long last, after an unwelcome extension of winter in early March. It is the time of year when we cast off cosy woolly jumpers and tights, and enjoy the feeling of fresh air on our skin. To celebrate this new beginning, a little self-care can be the perfect tonic.
Refresh your diet
If you are feeling a little bit tired and sluggish after the winter, a few changes to your diet could help to boost your energy levels. Upping your intake of fruit and vegetables is the best and quickest way to ensure that your body is getting all the nutrients and vitamins it needs to function on top form.
Easy ways to eat more fruit include adding berries, chopped bananas, or slices of apple onto your morning cereal, or whizzing up your favourite fruit together in a blender to make a delicious morning smoothie.
If you feel as though you don’t have enough time to prep fresh vegetables for your evening meal, frozen vegetables are just as nutritious and can be cooked in a few minutes in the microwave in a steamer or bowl of water.
Get outdoors
It can be much harder to keep up with a consistent exercise routine in the dark cold winter months, but the longer lighter days make it easier to get out and about. Even a 10 minute walk outside at lunch time can do wonders for your mood and energy levels.
If you have some outside space at your home, spring is the season to plant some colourful flowers and tidy up the winter debris. Pots and hanging baskets brimming with long-flowering species such as geraniums, campanulas, and sweet peas can make your garden or balcony feel bright and cheerful for months to come.
Pamper your skin
Our skin can feel a little dull and dry after the winter months, and a little extra pampering may be called for. It may not quite be shorts and vest weather just yet, but hopefully the warm days of summer are just around the corner. In the bath or shower, gently scrub your skin with an exfoliating mitt to buff away the build-up of dead skin cells.
Pay particular attention to your elbows, knees, and feet, as these areas are particularly prone to rough dry skin. Use a separate exfoliator for your face, as those designed for your body will be too harsh. Finish off with a rich moisturiser to lock in the hydration and leave your skin feeling soft and supple.
If you have unwanted body hair that you would like to remove on a permanent or semi-permanent basis, you may want to consider a laser treatment or a course of electrolysis. Laser hair removal is best suited to people with darker hair, and works by destroying the hair follicles on the face and body.
Electrolysis is suitable for most people regardless of hair colour, and is an approved safe and effective permanent hair removal solution.
