5 Top Tips For Establishing A Winter Skincare Routine

Developing an effective skincare routine for winter is vitally important. The season can cause all manner of skin issues, making it dull, dry and pale, which can be exacerbated by the heating and warm, dry air in our homes and workplaces during the colder weather.

However, there is a solution at hand, as with a few changes to your usual skincare routine, such as using retinol and making some lifestyle adjustments, you can replace dry and dull skin with supple, youthful, and glowing skin – ready for the festive party season!

  1. Drink more water

We tend to drink less water in winter, mainly because we want warming drinks during the coldest of the seasons. However, reducing your water intake will lead to your skin becoming dry. Ensure you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and eating foods with high water content, and notice the difference it makes to your skin.

  1. Moisturise your skin frequently

Moisturising is vital, and by following one golden rule, you can be sure to never suffer from dry skin ever again!

It is important to moisturise as soon as you get out of the bath or shower, it is also imperative that you moisturise just before bed to ensure you feed your skin with all the nighttime replenishment it needs.

  1. Avoid using extremely hot water

Nothing quite beats a good soak in a hot bath or shower after a long day out in the wintery weather. However, very hot water can cause damage to your skin.

Boiling water causes dryness and that, in turn, makes your skin irritable. Replace extremely high boiling water with lukewarm water and your skin will thank you for it!

  1. Include food items rich in Vitamin E

Vitamin E is essential for preventing moisture loss and it is also known to possess anti-ageing properties. By eating foods rich in vitamin E, such as nuts and green leafy veggies, as well as using lotions rich in vitamin E at night, you can be sure it works its magic while you sleep.

Look for lotions that are enriched with wheatgerm oil, which is known to be rich in vitamin E. Cocoa butter also contains antioxidants that help repair damaged skin and is a skin-softening and moisturising agent. It also promotes healing and prevents your skin from drying or cracking.

  1. Don’t forget the tough spots

We all tend to focus on what we see in the mirror – the face, as well as the hands. But it is important to give tough spots such as your elbow, feet, and cuticles a little more TLC, as they tend to become very dry over the winter.

Hopefully, these tips will prove effective and handy even in the most extreme of winter weather conditions and will help improve your skin.
