4 Autumn Beauty Trends

The autumn is a great time of year for changing up your beauty routine, with plenty of new hair and makeup trends emerging in time for the party season. The hot humid days which can be the enemy of sleek hairstyles and polished-looking skin are over, and for many people, now is the perfect beauty season. Here’s a look at some of the latest trends.

Subtle nude tones

There is a trend for a more low-key vibe for everyday make-up palettes, according to The Guardian. This is a change brought about by the lockdown years, when many women got out of the habit of putting on a full face of make-up every day. Beauty firms are producing whole ranges of lipsticks, blushers, foundations and nail polishes in fresh natural hues.

The idea is to layer flesh-coloured tones to create subtle contrasts, which complement and enhance the natural skin tone, rather than try to alter or disguise any features. This takes a lot of work out of choosing products as you don’t need to be constantly checking if a shade will look too harsh with your natural colouring.

Non-gendered beauty products

The beauty product sector is usually marketed along strict gender lines, with the majority of ranges aimed at women. Men’s products are catching up, with more skincare and haircare ranges for men added every year. However, until recently, only the most prosaic pharmacy store items have been gender neutral.

Now, this is starting to change, with the growing recognition that the differences between the skin and hair of the genders isn’t all that marked. Fuss-free packaging and a straightforward brand message, without any tired old gendered tropes, is a line which more beauty companies are starting to take, according to The Guardian.

The bold red lip

For those who are just not keen on subtle and understated, take heart—the bold red lip is back in a big way this year. After two years of mask wearing which saw a shift towards eye make up, lippy fans are going big with statement colours.

Red is a chic and timeless colour, with a trend toward gloss, rather than the matt lipsticks which have been more popular in recent years. For best effect, keep the complexion dewy and understated.

However, the old rule that you should emphasise either the eyes or the lips, but not both, is changing, with celebs such as Lily Colins and Rihanna rocking both eyes and lips to full effect, Glamour Magazine reports. A popular trend is to match red lips with blue eyes, using as blue eyeliner, eyeshadow, or even blue mascara.

Well defined brows

Brows have been a huge beauty trend for decades, with various shapes and styles going in and out of fashion. There was the rather alarming news a couple of years ago that the 90s skinny brow was on the way back, but thankfully it is not the pencil thin lines of the past. In fact, the emphasis is more on well-groomed brows which work with your natural shape.
