3 Tips To Get Your Skincare Routine Summer Ready

With the warmer weather now settling in, many people may be ditching their moisture-rich winter skincare regimes and instead opting for a lighter, sun-friendly routine to welcome the summer in with glowing, bright skin.

Changing your skincare routine based on the season is a great way to ensure your skin is prepared for whatever weather may come your way.

It is important to recognise that the needs of your skin vary as the weather changes and adapting your regime to suit this can work wonders.

Most of the products you use on a daily basis won’t have to change, however, a few swaps and the introduction of an extra product or two can help to make sure your skin stays glowing, moisturised and protected whatever the weather.

The first step you should take to bring your skincare up to speed with the sunshine is upping your use of SPF. Sunscreen helps to protect the skin from UV rays and sun damage and should be used all year round, even in the dead of winter, however, you will likely need more protection in the summertime.

It is recommended that you use at least SPF 30, even in the winter, however, an SPF 50 is more suited for those hot, sun-filled summer days. It is also recommended that you reapply every couple of hours for maximum protection.

Sun protection helps to keep sun damage at bay, decreases your risk of skin cancer, reduces the appearance of fine lines and can even slow down the ageing process, so including it as a key part of your daily routine is essential for healthy, protected skin.

You may think that steering away from your usual moisturisers in the summer is the best decision, as the heat often brings more humid air and can make you feel sticky and sweaty. However, it is important that you still give your skin as much hydration as possible.

Using a lighter, less oily moisturiser is a great way to ensure you are still locking in the hydration without leaving a heavy, sticky feeling on the skin. In the summer, your skin can dry out without you realising it, so staying topped up is best.

Mixing moisturiser and SPF is a great trick to minimise the number of products you are using while still getting all the benefits you need. A tinted moisturiser with SPF can be the perfect product for coverage, protection and hydration!

Cleansing the skin is always important, however, you may wish to be a little more thorough in the summer. Sweat can build up and cause your pores to clog, which can in turn lead to breakouts and oily skin.

By properly cleansing daily and exfoliating a couple of times a week, you can keep your skin clean and clear all summer long and prevent any build-up of dirt, sweat and products from ruining your effortless summer style.

You may wish to use a cleanser that has antibacterial properties to use as well, as this can also help to kill off any acne-producing bacteria which may have accumulated due to sweating.
